In brief
  • Harper's Bazaar named 81 products on September 16, 2026 after 12 months of testing.
  • Centella, peptides and bakuchiol appear most often, usually framed around barrier support.
  • Capsules, cushions and gloss hybrids raise questions about stability, dose and added steps.

Eighty one products were selected. Harper’s Bazaar published The 81 Most Innovative Beauty Products of 2026 on September 16, 2026, after assessing hundreds of formulas during 12 months across skin and hair types and ages.

The editors grouped the winners as skincare, tool, body, makeup and hair icons. They said they sought cutting edge technology, research based science, easier routines, or a solution to a distinct or emerging problem. Those criteria favor combined functions over novelty alone.

The recurring formula theme is barrier support. Pravada Private Label includes centella asiatica, panthenol and allantoin in its account of ingredients for sensitive skin and barrier health. Get the Gloss listed Sculpted by Aimee Second Skin Dewy Foundation SPF 50 at 25 pounds and noted SPF with hyaluronic acid, squalane and centella asiatica. A tinted SPF with a plant extract suits fewer layers. Barrier benefit still depends on concentration, vehicle and controlled testing, which the roundups do not report.

Peptides form the second theme. Beauty Independent reporting describes 2026 longevity and regenerative skincare as ceramides, antioxidants and SPF with peptides, growth factors, exosomes and PDRN. Pravada places peptides among clinical facial actives now used in scalp serums and body lotions. The same reporting describes minimalist routines with maximum function as smaller routines built on multi pathway action. One serum is expected to cover the role of two. Whether a peptide does that at its use level requires percent, pH, weeks of use and sample size, and those details are absent.

A third botanical note concerns bakuchiol. Aadhunik Ayurveda states that bakuchiol from Psoralea corylifolia seeds supports collagen production and fades dark spots without the dryness or sun sensitivity linked to retinoids. That statement has not been independently tested. It explains why some formulators select a seed derived option for gentler routines. It does not establish equivalence to a retinoid in human skin.

Delivery formats drew tactile coverage. Get the Gloss listed Laneige Bouncy and Firm Serum at 22 pounds and Medicube Deep Vita C Capsule Cream at 24.50 pounds and noted encapsulated pearls of hydrating ingredients. Capsules hold water loving pearls apart until massage, which suits slower application. The same roundup described 3D textures in cleansers as spheres like bubble tea that burst when massaged. Touch becomes part of dose release. The question is whether the shell preserves the active until use.

Cushion and gloss hybrids extend the pattern. In July, Harpers Bazaar editors picked YSL Beautys new cushion foundation for full coverage that is said to feel light and not cakey. The July picks also named a Playa hair gloss with fragrance from Susan Yaras new Playa line, linked to Naturium. Get the Gloss listed L Oreal Paris True Match Plumping Tinted Serum at 14.99 pounds as tint with slow release hyaluronic acid in 9 flexible shades. Coverage, tint and skin care are now being sold in a single bottle. Shared packaging simplifies routines only if stability and sun protection hold in testing.

Value information is partial. Perricone MD No Makeup Blush was listed at 24.75 pounds down from 33 pounds and called a blusher with vitamin C. Costs are rising as interest in lower priced picks grows, but full prices, launch dates, sales and ownership are missing for some items. These reflect trends and editor selections, not clinical testing of the named launches.

Attention should stay on what persists after the quarter. Barrier plants are simple to retain. Capsules, cushions and glosses still need to show they protect actives and reduce product count rather than adding another step.

We will keep tracking concentrations behind the highlight, and the data that would let fewer layers do more.
